There is something very special and mysterious about snowfall. When I was a boy we used to wrap up tightly in our snorkels and gloves and head off into the twilight snow. We would take makeshift sledges and plastic bags up to the hills, ride our sledges and have snowball fights for hours – until our hands got too sore to touch any more snow. I still miss the feeling of running so much that we’d feel boiling hot when it was bitter cold. I loved that pink twilit clarity of snowfall, the ground and the houses thick with the white of the fallen snow, the crystal flakes dissolving on my tongue. And when I got back to the warmth of home, I would go to my bedroom and gaze out of the window, entranced by that still silence there is in the air after the snow has fallen. A bedroom is a magical place for a kid. The window is a source of a million dreams.
